Launched in 1939, the Lincoln Continental, through its long career, has been produced in different body styles, including two-door and four-door convertibles, two-door and four-door hardtops and sedans, and two-door coupés. While the previous model was produced in 2002, it signs the return of its flagship, thanks to this 10th generation. In the luxury sedan category, several models are competing for the leadership, but thanks to the Continental, Lincoln can also claim its share of the cake. To achieve its objective, the Continental is bringing warm, human touches and a contemporary design.
For this 10th generation of the Lincoln Continental, the American brand is targeting new customers, who define luxury on their own terms. The Continental has always been associated with the best Lincoln has to offer. That’s why this model is focused on creating more human, personally tailored experiences for the customers, as the Lincoln’s President confirmed.
After a fifteen-year absence, the least that can be said is that the Lincoln Continental has evolved and it marks above all a break with its past. The brand wanted the design to be modern, and for that, it embodies the new distinctive grille, which recalls Bentley models, and an athletic profile, which highlights a dynamic and progressive character. The American sedan claims a distinctive look, through the signature LED lighting in the lower front body and tail lamps, subtly glide from the head lamps. The line of the Continental expresses beauty, strength and elegance. To create a clean profile, the door handles are subtly integrated within the beltline. This new system, allows the passengers to have an elegant and mainly easy entry. Offered as an option, but which undoubtedly adds a touch of elegance, the panoramic sunroof is nearly covering the entire roof area. The front half slides up and over the rear, creating a large, open-air driving experience and an even greater feeling of spaciousness for up to five Continental occupants.
Inside the cockpit of the 10th generation of the Continental, Lincoln wanted to offer its clientele a rather quiet atmosphere. The designers have had the mission to create and provide a serene experience through several details, but each has its own importance. Thanks to the use of noble materials, such as authentic wood and leather, the brand wants to offer luxurious comfort to its occupants. Indeed, inside the new Continental, new Perfect Position Seats have been used. Inspired by private jets and high-end office furniture, they can be adjusted up to 30 ways and above all, they can adjust to individual body shapes and weights, to offer an optimal stretch and comfort. For the infotainment system, the Continental is equipped by the SYNC 3, which integrates audio, phone, navigation and other functions. The whole can be controlled through the responsive touch screen. The rear passengers cannot complain about the way that they can take advantage of equipment reserved to first-class travelers. Still in this perspective to offer its passengers an indisputable comfort, the Continental includes Active Noise Control and acoustic-laminated glass to create a quiet environment. If serenity is the word describing the interior, under the hood the power is taking advantage.
The all-new Lincoln inaugurates the exclusive 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, that produces 400 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The Continental is available with all-wheel drive paired with Dynamic Torque Vectoring, which transfers torque on demand to the appropriate rear wheel, through corners. Thanks to the Lincoln Drive Control, the driver can choose between the three settings, comfort, normal and sport, adapting steering and suspension setups to tailor ride and handling.
Thanks to the new Continental, Lincoln is determined to compete with the Germans, using the same arguments. Indeed, the American sedan highlights a modern and rather sober design, an interior using high quality materials and above all, powerful engines, that truly offer an enjoyable driving experience.
