The original design of the MP-05 “LaFerrari” was created to showcase the beauty of its engine inspired movement in an all-sapphire case, a movement literally suspended in the air. Hublot makes us admire all the details of this breathtakingly cool movement and brings us into a supernatural universe.
Launched in 2013, the MP-05 “LaFerrari” was created in tribute to the eponymous supercar, imposed its unique and ultra-complex architecture. The MP-05 “LaFerrari” lines are the result of a collaboration between Hublot, the official high-end watch making partner and Flavio Manzoni, the star designer of Ferrari.
The movement is now entirely within sight, since it reveals itself at 360 degrees. It seems suspended in the air, in this case of sapphire cut to measure for him. The MP-05 “LaFerrari” is not designed from a single piece of sapphire crustal, but rather seven parts that fit together nicely. According to the brand, each hublot MP-05 “LaFerrari” sapphire case requires more than 600 hours of machining work. Besides, the case is said to weigh 53.5 grams on the wrist.
The movement not only has a vertically mounted tourbillon, but also a long series of 11 coupled barrels which offer the in house-made Hublot calibre HUB9005.H1.PN.1 movement produced from 637 parts. The movement operates at 3Hz and indicates the time with seconds, plus it boasts a power reserve indicator on rotating drums.
A timepiece produced from a single monolithic piece of this super-hard crystal. This highly impressive case becomes a desirable object. The sophisticated MP-05 “LaFerrari” Sapphire maker takes the transparent theme a bit far and into the strap. For this model, Hublot has what I believe to be the most transparent frosted silicone strap with a titanium buckle. Respecting the prospects of this piece with the ultra-futuristic look, the watch goes up thanks to a mechanism activated by an automatic screwdriver like the tires of Formula 1®.
The MP-05 “LaFerrari” Sapphire is a rare model, will be published as a limited edition of 20 pieces. It is already considered as a collector.
